Congrats to these OVKA guys for making top 10 at Daytona during the WKA Man Cup #1. And a huge congrats goes out to all the teams from OVKA that made the trip to Daytona. There were quite a few first timers in Daytona and many great memories were made.

We want to welcome Tim Reed to the OVKA Board of Directors Team. Tim has been serving as OVKA's VP this past year and has also been involved in the OVKA Karting scene 2006 with his son Emerson which won a double OVKA championship in 2008. Emerson claimed his eagles in both the Cadet Jr Sportsman & in the Sportsman Yamaha Classes, congrats to him. Tim will be replacing Toshiya Michimi who is stepping down as a board member starting December 2nd. We want to thank Toshiya for his effort, thoughts and time while being a OVKA board member. So the next time you see Tim Reed congratulate him on his new position and success with OVKA.

OVKA would like to recognize Brandon Brown (son of member Mike Brown) for donating an American flag to OVKA to fly during the 2009 season. This flag flew in Iraq this past year and Brandon wanted OVKA to have it in remembrance and honor of all of our current military men and women serving in the armed services and also to all of our veterans. Brandon is currently serving in the Army in Iraq. Thank you Brandon, OVKA will fly this flag proudly!

November 1st will be a gerneral membership clean-up day, to prepare the track for the winter months ahead. All members are invited to assist in this effort. Contact Max Viney if you have any questions or are interested in helping. Plans are to store the crash bags, clean restrooms and walk the grounds picking up trash and deal with any other maintance issues that need addressed.

While we are on a cleaning subject, OVKA will be starting a recycle program collecting aluminum and steel. There will be locations market (at G&J) for this material to be placed in. Your coorperation is appreciated.

As requested, a Photo Link has been added back to the OVKA Homepage, for ease in locating the event photos (the old link will stay in place under the OVKA info page as well). If you have any photos to share please forward them to Ray McKibben at rm1252st@aol.com.

This weekend is the final race of the OVKA Points Championship Series. There are many drivers still battling for a Championship as well as tight races in mid-pack of the standings. You should also be checking your participation if you are concerned about what level you are at in regards to prizes at the Awards Banquet coming up this winter.

That brings us to the Banquest. The Banquet will again be held at the Kings Island Resort and Conference Center on January 24th. More information will follow. Any questions can be directed to Rick Coombs.

Also the OVKA Kart Swap Meet in Springfield Ohio will be held on February 7th. Contact Dennis Queary, Randy Vermillion or Gary Gregg for information.

OVKA is in need of a person to chair the Sponsorship position. This person must be an OVKA club member and willing to perform the duties of finding club sponsors. Information on this position contact Randy Vermillion.

OVKA is proud to announce a new club sponsor / club photographer, Apogee Imaging. They will be available at each club race offering action photos of each driver. Learn more and contact them at http://www.apogeeaimhigher.com/. There will also be information you can take with you at the race day registration table.

Speaking of photos. If you have any digital images in or around the track that you would like to share with all the other members and post here on the OVKA site. Ray Mckibben is heading this project and can be contacted at the track or via email at rm1252st@aol.com. This is a free service.

With just a few races remain in the 2008 race season. The Board of Directors is beginning to plan the 2009 race season schedule. Please contact your nearest Board Member and let them know you thoughts and concerns in any, but not limited to the following subjects;

TRACK CLOSED on 8/31/08 = The NASA US DRIFT Midwest has the entire G&J track on Sunday August 31st. So the track will closed to any karting activity on that day. You can contact G&J Kartway at info@gandjkartway.com or (937) 452-1218 for any questions.

ATTENTION ALL KID KART PARENTS:
All Kid Karts MUST have restrictor installed at all OVKA sanctioned events. Any questions contact Scott Williams (Kid Kart Director) on Race day or any OVKA Board Member.

ATTENTION ALL JR BRIGGS / JR ANIMAL & SPORTSMAN BRIGGS TEAMS:
The following is a change to the WKA tech manual from WKA which effects OVKA rules.
    Jr Briggs / Jr Animal per rule 263.4 of the WKA tech manual, that this class will move from using the Gold restrictor plate to now using the Black Restrictor Plate.
     Sportsman Briggs per rule 263.2 of the WKA tech manual, that this class will move from using the Purple restrictor plate to now using the Turquoise Resrictor Plate.
Any questions concerning this change see Max Viney or any of the OVKA board members.

OVKA would like to welcome the newly appointed Rookie Class Director, Don Boles. Don will be available on race days for questions and will also be observing for purposes of instruction and recommendations in graduating to the next class.

OVKA will also be implementing a mentoring session for Kid Kart & Rookie class drivers during the time period between the warm-up sessions and the drivers meeting. The purpose of the sessions would be quick encouragement and instruction by other drivers in the Jr & Jr Sportsman classes and to also establish communication between them to encourage growth and knowledge.

Right now race #9 is still in need of 2 Turn Marshals and a Head Flagman. If you would like to work one of these positions or know anyone who is interested, contact Lynda Coombs at 513-293-6905.

This will not replace regular communications from the OVKA board of directors or announcements seen here on the site, but it is to enhance the overall communication between OVKA and the fans, drivers crew and membership.

To eliminate confusion and to stay consistent with the OVKA rule book, some changes have been made to the way the points pages appear in reference to the “Non-Points” classes (Rookie & Kid Karts). If there are any questions please first refer to the OVKA rule book.

OVKA's next race will be the season's first night race on the old G&J track (config B). BE SURE TO HAVE AN AMBER OR CLEAR HELMENT SHIELD. This will be a qualifing race with a Pre-Final & Final, where the winner takes all in the final.
