At this time we would like to welcome the newest member to the OVKA Board of Directors, Josh Wagar. Josh was recently asked how he got involved with OVKA? "In 2000 My dad (Rick, past OVKA VP) Bought his first Kart and raced 5 or 6 times that season, after coming to the track and helping him on those race days I was Bit hard by the racing Bug, and got a Kart the next season. I raced for the next 6 years in Super Can, Yamaha Lite, and Yamaha Heavy. After taking the 2007 season off, and realizing how much I missed being around karting, I returned to OVKA as the Race director for the second half of the 2008 season, and continued as race Director for 2009." Josh is replacing past BoD member Dennis Queary, so please help us welcome Josh to the OVKA board and congratulate him the next time you see him.

FYI: If you are planning on voting for the 2010 officers at the General Membership Meeting held before the January 23rd Banquet. You must be a paid member for the 2010 season. Well the 2009 season has come to a close. Now the OVKA leadership is planning for the 2010 season. If you have any recommendations, concerns or questions please feel free to contact a Board member (contact info found on the contact page). Also the best way to voice you concerns and see what is coming up for 2010 is attend the next Board meeting which is on Tuesday November 3rd (meeting info located at top of this page). Just as a reminder for Race #8. It is an evening race scheduled Gates open at 11:30am and Green flag drops at 4:30pm.
And per OVKA rule 202, under "Saftey Equipment". Racers will be required to change to a clear or amber visor at all night races at the start of the third heat or when called for by the Race Director.

We are pleased to announce a new classifieds page link, you will now have the ability to upload your own ads and add pictures directly from your computer.
This is up for a trial period of 60 days, feed back is welcomed.

It is with great sadness to inform you of the death of Jenny Brown (wife of Ray Brown) Long time OVKA members. Ray informed us that Jenny passed away this morning following a struggle with interstitial fibrosis. Visitation will be this Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. (Jenny will be cremated). The funeral home is Breitenbach, McCoy & Leffler, 517 South Sutphin Street, Middletown, OH 45044 (513-423-9443).

Finally, to reply to the question about Pre-Tech and the need of it being done before each race day. WKA requires OVKA to Pre-Tech each kart entered individually on each race day that OVKA has on it's schedule. So you must go through kart Pre-Tech before registration as in years past.

Special note:
Kid Kart on track testing/practice at G&J Kartway is scheduled during the last 15 minutes of each hour throughout each day of the week. It has been posted at the track, and see Gary Gregg if you have any questions. Also see the G&J track schedule for open testing/practice dates. On OVKA racedays follow the raceday schedule.

OVKA Kid Kart 2009 requirement, all karts must weigh at the scales at the end of each heat and be a minimum of 150 lbs.

We would like to welcome Rick Etter and Ray McKibben to the OVKA Board of Directors. They were voted to the BoD during the April Board meeting. Rick takes over the seat from Mark Lewis and Ray filled the vacancy from Hal Thornton. We want to thank both Mark and Hal for the time and effort over the years of service on the Board. New Board Member:
Ray joined OVKA in 2005. He started out turning wrenches on his son Steven's kart, and then continued as his wife Kathy took to the track in 2006. Today Ray also competes in the Yamaha Masters class, while still working on the karts for the whole family. Ray is always right there whenever help is needed for the club, and has been a corner worker, head flagman, and has helped on numerous clean up days, track improvement, served on the Rules Committee, and many other tasks which needed to be done. Please welcome Rick and Ray to his new position as a member of the Board of Directors the next time you see them.
New Board Member:
Rick started racing with OVKA in 1989 as a driver in the US820 class. Rick raced for a couple of years before putting racing on hold to raise his young family. Rick returned to racing in 2006 when his son, Josh, wanted to try this great sport of karting and the rest is history. Rick and Josh have had success at the club level, as well as, competing in regional and national events. Rick successfully completed the WKA tech school in February and is a Certified WKA tech official. You can find Rick in spot #41 near the garages at the north end of the pits on raceday, crew chief for his son and willing to help fellow karters.

Congratulations go out to Mike Brown & Rick Etter for passing the WKA Tech Inspection Exam. They are now official WKA Technical Inspectors. Thank you gentlemen for taking the time and effort to enhance OVKA.

Again, just a reminder that the April OVKA Board of Director's meeting will be at 8pm on Tuesday April 7th. Not at 7pm due to scheduling issues with the venue. The normal meeting time of 7pm will resume back up in May. This meeting as always is open to everyone. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THE TIME CHANGE.

New Board Member:
Randy J. Vermillion has been around the karting scene and OVKA for about the last 10 years. He has helped crew with his Dad Randy N. Vermillion and for his uncle Gary (REV) during the past. Until Logan (his oldest son) was old enough to start racing 4 years ago. He has been working on Logan's karts with the helpful eye of his Dad at OVKA, GLSS & WKA Man Cup events. Randy will be starting driver/son #2, Landon out in the 09 season in the kid kart class. Randy has also worked with his Dad to get the rookie class going and established at OVKA. He has worked many promotional shows for OVKA such as KMI, Lang's show and the OVKA swap meet to name a few. He has also assisted in pre-tech, post-tech, tech painting, protest committees, and rule book committee. Please welcome Randy to the OVKA Board of Directors, he will bring a needed value. He replaced his Dad Randy N. Vermillion in this position.
Please note that next months Board of Directors meeting, which will be on March 7th 2009 will start at 8pm and not the traditional 7pm. This is due to a scheduling issue at the Ramada Inn. Also as a reminder that pit spot renewal deadline is the second OVKA race, which is on May 17th. So get you pit spot reservations in today to lock your spot down. You can contact Lee McCready for more details. The 2009 OVKA rule book has been approved and will be published shortly. Copies will be available at the April 4th Clean-up Day through the entire season. The electrionic version will be posted here on the web site once it has been published. Stay tuned.

We want to welcome Mike Brown to the OVKA Board of Directors Team.
Mike started racing with OVKA in the late 80's through the early 90's and also participated in the national endures series in both sit-up sprint and lay down classes.he then move on into Midget racing, 360 sprints. and 600cc Modified winged Sprints.In 2007 Mike and his wife Suzi made the Decision to return back to their second family OVKA, This past year Mike has served as race director , head flagman and as a corner worker on several occasions this past season. He is currently racing in the Yamaha heavy Class.
Mike will be replacing JoAnne Hartings who is stepping down as a board member starting February 3rd. We want to thank JoAnne for all her efforts, thoughts and time while being a OVKA board member. So the next time you see Mike Brown congratulate him on his new position and return to OVKA.
